In this video I will show you how to add text to 360 video in Premiere Pro. I will also cover how to add 2D text to the North, East, South, and West side of the 360 video. So let’s get started.

How To Add Text To 360 Video Premiere Pro

CREATE TEXT

Create a new project and import your footage into a new a sequence.

Click the Text Tool. And click and drag a text box on the preview window.

Type the text you want to show. In this case, this is called “The Hive.” Now I will change the font. To do this, press Control + A on the keyboard to highlight the text, and I will change the font to Poppins, and select Bold from the right hand side menu. Increase the Text Size to 200. Center the text. And I will add Drop Shadow to make the text pop out.

Shrink the text box to fit the size of the text. And this will allow me to properly align the text in the center of the video.

Then click the Align Vertically and Align Horizontally button to center the text.

HOW TO TOGGLE VR DISPLAY ON PREMIERE PRO

To see a preview of the text in a 360 view, Toggle VR Video Display ON. If you cannot see this button here. Click the Plus button and drag the Toggle VR Video Display button with your other buttons.

To make this preview window bigger, right click the preview window, go to VR Video, and Settings.

Change the Horizontal to 160 and the Vertical to 90, and click OK.

HOW TO CONVERT 2D TEXT INTO EQUIRECTANGULAR

You will notice the text looks a little warped in the 360 view. It is not straight. We need to convert this 2D text to display properly in a 360 video. To do this, go to Effects.

Type in VR plane in the search bar, and drag the VR Plane To Sphere effect onto the text layer.

Go to Effect Controls, scroll down to the VR Plane To Sphere effect, and change the Scale to 100. Now the text displays properly. The text looks small on the screen but when you watch this video in a VR headset, then it will look much bigger. And if you find it too big then just scale down the text size from 100 to something lower.

HOW TO ADD TEXT ALL AROUND YOUR VIDEO

If you want add the text all around your video, then create a couple more Video Tracks. To do this, right click the video track, and select Add Track. Do this twice.

Copy the Text layer by pressing Control + C on the keyboard. Switch off V1 and switch on V3. Drag the blue line to where you want to paste the Text Layer.

Press Control + V to paste the Text Layer.

Select the text layer. Go to Effects Control and scroll down to Rotate Projection. Change the Projection Pan to 90. You now have text on the right hand side of your 360 video (East side).

Now let’s make the text appear directly behind (South side). Copy the Text layer by pressing Control + C on the keyboard. Switch off V3 and switch on V4. Drag the blue line to where you want to paste the Text Layer. Press Control + V to paste the text layer.

Select the text layer. Go to Effects Control and scroll down to Rotate Projection. Change the Projection Pan to 180. You now have text at the back of your 360 video.

Finally, to make the text appear to the left of the video (West side). Copy the Text layer by pressing Control + C on the keyboard. Switch off V4 and switch on V5. Drag the blue line to where you want to paste the Text Layer. Press Control + V to paste the text layer.

Select the text layer. Go to Effects Control and scroll down to Rotate Projection. Change the Projection Pan to 270. You now have text to the West side of your 360 video. That’s it! You now have text all around your video!
